Energy losses in distribution networks not only increase costs but also lead to a reduction in system efficiency and a decline in service quality. Furthermore, voltage profile is a crucial criterion for network performance, directly affecting power quality and the safety of consumer equipment. This paper proposes a novel method to solve the network reconfiguration optimization problem in the presence of Distributed Generation (DG), with the aim of reducing active power losses and improving the voltage profile in the distribution system. For this purpose, the Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) meta-heuristic algorithm is simultaneously employed for network reconfiguration and identifying optimal locations for installing DG units in the distribution network. Additionally, sensitivity analysis has been utilized to determine the optimal installation sites for DG. Various scenarios for DG placement and network reconfiguration optimization have been investigated. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, voltage constraints and branch current capacities have been incorporated into the objective function. The method has been applied to 33-bus and 69-bus radial distribution systems, as well as an 8-bus real distribution network in the Khuzestan Electric Power Distribution Company, demonstrating its suitable performance, and the obtained results have been favorable.
