In this study, a second-order boost converter with a very high voltage step-up capability is introduced. The proposed topology employs an efficient structure that enables zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) at the turn-on instant of both the main and auxiliary switches. Achieving ZVS significantly reduces the voltage stress on the semiconductor devices and improves the overall switching efficiency. In this converter, all diodes are turned off under zero-current conditions, thereby minimizing their turn-off losses. Moreover, the auxiliary switch operates complementarily with the main switch, which allows the PWM-based control strategy to be preserved without increasing implementation complexity. The continuous input current further makes this configuration suitable for renewable energy applications such as photovoltaic panels and fuel-cell systems. Simulation results obtained in PSPICE validate the correct operation and analytical assessments of the proposed converter and demonstrate an efficiency of 96.2% at full load.
